     This weekend I walked the red carpet! Never thought I would get to do that in a million years but there I was.
     It was the FALL kickoff at church and let me tell ya it was done with a BANG! There were red carpets, flashing lights, and people dressed up like popular celebrities and movie stars. I had just the best time at church! There was this huge extravagant performance done by the singing ministry and friends at the beginning. I was into it completely and all the way through the whole service.

     Anger really does make you a fool, smh (shake my head). Even as I was in the moment of being angry I realize the situation can easily be brushed off. Unfortunately in my case anger had already reached my head and I entered into the "I'm just feeling angry right now" state of mind. I didn't know how to get out of it. Or specifically I guess I didn't really want to because of how I was "feeling". Normally I ask God to let me be the she that rises when it is not yet day but it didn't pop into my head. That's what fools do they don't ask for help. A horribly bitter experience left on my tongue of what happens when I don't call onto God in the mist of my anger. Forgive me God. Next time I will.

     It's that time again, yes, back to school! Which is great because I know you all love the academics portion of it. I also know you just want to show up and look cute with your friends, almost like a mandatory hang out session made possible to you by the public school system, haha. That's why I have been posting so many Back To School, B.T.S, looks for both the girls and guys out there. So make sure you let me know what more you want to see in the comments below. By the why the B.T.S looks will continue until next week so keep coming back for more fun new style inspirations. There will most definitely be one on school uniform and how to style it up.
     So this week I have decided to post what is so long over due and that is Part 3 of the Miami Swim Week 2014 & My Birthday. Since my birthday has been gone for quite some time now I'm going to make this post short, sweet, and straight to the point. That week was literally the best week of my summer hands down because I did so any incredible things that week. As you know from part 1& 2 I worked backstage which was awesome! After hours is when my life started to heat up, and boy was it sizzling.
     On my actually birthday after work, I went to an AMC Theater and meet up with some friends that I hadn't seen since we graduated high school. Daniella, Kaitlyn, her brother, and I saw 'How to train your dragon 2' which was so freakin' funny I can't even explain, it's a movie for all to see. Then we went to RA Sushi Bar Restaurant which offers Japanese Fusion Cuisine, and sushi catering in a fun, upbeat atmosphere. Which is spot on! The waiter was so funny, friendly and awesome! The next two days I hung out with Webber J. Charles who is an Associate Site Director at Breakthrough Miami but he was my first art teacher and mentor. Anyway, he took me shopping and I was able to meet a few of his really cool friends who are completely passionate about their goals. It was great to be around them in the atmosphere we were in which was a bowling ally, haha, always enjoyable. Then, I hung out with my wonderful friend Vaninna and we tried on a bunch of  clothes at Zara. I convinced her to buy more than she wanted to because she looked so cute in the garment pieces she picked out. I was really no help with keeping her on budget lol.

     So first off, I knooooooow I owe you a Part 3 of the Miami Swim Week/ Birthday blog and it will be up soon! But I am kinda, sort of obsessed with the new Janelle Monáe -Electric Lady song and video. Now I only know a few songs from Monáe- Cold War, Dance or Die, and of course Tightrope so I m in no way a Janelle Monáe expert. I actually heard Tightrope for the first time on a Target back to school commercial. Yeah I know of all the places to discover music. I was just blown away. It's weird and funky but it was still  R&B while at the same time new age pop. It was crazy and I still love hearing it To. This. Day!

Bah Bam! That's how her music comes off to me.

Electro- Sophista- Funky-Lady

    So for me personally I forgot about all the sooouuul Janelle puts into her music. That's a bit weird to say because of course I saw her Covergirl ads and I'd hear people or entertainment television talk about her but I wasn't I guess you could say "sold". Yeah she seemed cool with her natural hair styles, dress in her black & white uniform but c'mon it was 2010. I was in what the 10th grade watching Hannah Montana and singing the Cheetah girls and High School Musicial soundtracks. By the way have you seen Zac Effron lately? Whooo child (hand fan and side eye).
     Recently I feel like I've been reintroduced to Janelle Monáe. I have to say hearing and seeing the Electric Lady official music video just hooked me. I am more likely to follow her and her music now because I actually listen to and identify with the empowerment message that is thrown all up in her everything. Whether it be her style, her music, or what she stands for. I am 20. I haven't experienced as much as other 20 year olds have but I am still trying to figure out who I am and what my God given purpose is on this earth. I feel like when you wake up in the morning and you turn on that Janelle Monáe, she is gonna get you in the groove to where you walk out of your front door and you want to be you no matter what situation you might go through that day because you know you can get through it.      But seriously, I feel like I'm the "ish" when I listen to the song Electric Lady. I even went on twitter pledging #ElectroPhiBeta, hahaha. I feel like she's talking about me being "Electro- Sophista- Funky-Lady". And I actually dance to the beat (when I'm sitting or in my head), smh. I feel sexy yet unique, feminine, and powerful all at once. I've seen the music video for this song so many times when I just listen to the song I'm doing all the dance moves from it, shhhh don't tell anyone,  they might catch it on video hahaha.

     I have to say before I start talking about Miami Swim Week that Latch and Rude are two of my favorite songs right now. Latch, by Sam Smith, and Rude, by Magic, are just so freaking intoxicating! Latch just captures you and drags you to this place of consciousness. Right from the beginning he's describing these feelings that I'm sure most people feel but can't express it in such a way that's so graphic. I'm talking in the present tense because I'm actually listening to it as we speak. It's that good.  The lines "I'm latching on babe, now I know what I have found" or
Most people wouldn't say any of these words if there wasn't an amazing new pop beat behind it because most people would be to afraid to sound like they're crazy and clingy. That's the truth. That's why I'm latching on to Latch, haha. When I listen to it I feel like I'm swimming in surreal truth.
     When I listen to music I REALLY listen to music. Maybe not in great detail like the pros but as much as I can knowing what I know about writing, stories and music. That is also why I like Rude too! I don't listen Rude for the deep lyrics but more for the funny experience that's being unfolded as the each lyric is told. I won't put the lyrics to it because I can't just give you one part of the story it just wouldn't be right so go and check it out on Spotify. I don't want to spoil anything for anyone but he's asking someone for someone else's hand in marriage. You might enjoy it, I laughed the first time I listened to it completely, unless you've been in that situation in which case you should be like Kevin Hart and laugh at your pain. Thank you I'm here all night, haha. He got rich for it, so it is what you make it.




A trade fair (trade show, trade exhibition or expo) is an exhibition organized so that companies in a specific industry can showcase and demonstrate their latest products, service, study activities of rivals and examine recent market trends and opportunities. In contrast to consumer fairs, only some trade fairs are open to the public, while others can only be attended by company representatives (members of the trade, e.g. professionals) and members of the press, therefore trade shows are classified as either "Public" or "Trade Only".


I worked at what seemed to be a "trade only" show because it was really only for buying from companies that sold swimwear. Every day people wouldn't have been able to go in because none of the products are in stores yet. That is, unfortunately, the reason I could not take pictures of the booths and products that were there. Because child I am not tryin' to get sued.
There were so many brands, here are just a few I can remember.
-Lucky Brand
-Billabong
-Cynthia Rowley
-Pembroke
-Magicsuit
-Miraclesuit (This is the company I dressed for) Their suits were made to suck that extra unwanted fat in. They got me this really cute pack of lip glosses from Stila Cosmetics for working for them. Everyone was incredibly nice.
-Aqua Green (an Eco friendly company) I got a really cute aqua green wooden picture frame from them.
There were so many booths that were set up like the perfect destination or one stop shop for each brand and their products. Aqua Green was set up as if you were walking out of a beach house into a backyard that started in sand and even though you didn't see it you knew it would end in an ocean view. Most of them were really cool fantasy spots.

     As a dresser my job was to simply dress the models. When dealing with traditional fashion shows you have a line-up of what the model is wearing and after it shows once on the runway it's done. You put it back on a hanger and then that goes back into a garment bag and the dresser doesn't have to worry about it again. The buyers presentation was much different. Instead of showing for a large group of people once there were four shows a day each group by appointment. So that just made my job a tad bit more difficult and stressful, it's a toss up between the two.
     I was assigned to dress two model who each had about 8- 10 looks each. Some looks were one piece bathing suits, some two piece tankinis, some looks had cover-ups and others had tying closures.
     What made it somewhat stressful in the moment is that I had to do all of that which was totally fine but I also had to keep the looks in order for both models because they had to do that show every 2 hour until the last show of the day for the entirety of Miami Swim Week. So now on top of dressing my assigned models fast enough so they could go out on stage in time I'm also making sure the last look they wore  is making it's way back onto the hanger in the right order. Talk about stressfuuuulll. It's not as easy as it may sound, especially when the last look ends up on the ground in another models section or thrown behind you rack of clothes. BUT I always had about an hour break in between so it was cool. What I would do though, is right after one showing I would make sure everything was in it's correct order that way when the next show started there was no problems.
     Of course it wouldn't be a fashion show without some wardrobe malfunction happening backstage that the audience would never even realized ever happened. There were situations where my fashion degree came in hand!. I had to clean make-up stains off of garment pieces because c'mon they can't look worn in no matter how many times they've showed already. One of my models swimsuit popped right before she had to walk on stage. As soon as that happened we (me and other dressers) temporarily pinned the strap. Right after that showing I put my hand sewing skills to work! It was like nothing ever happened by the next presentation.


     Since I did end up having some pretty long breaks I did some sketches . I hope you enjoy. :)
